What Divorce Can Feel Like
Divorce can affect far more than your relationship status. It can change your routines, family dynamics, sense of identity, and expectations for the future, even when ending the relationship is the right decision.
You may be experiencing:
Grief, loneliness, or a sense of loss about the relationship or future you had planned
Anxiety about finances, housing, parenting arrangements, or what comes next
Difficulty concentrating because your mind keeps returning to what is happening at home
Anger, guilt, shame, or concern about how the divorce is affecting your children
These responses are not signs of weakness. They are a natural part of moving through one of life’s most difficult transitions. What matters is that you don’t have to carry them alone.

Move from overwhelm toward greater clarity and emotional stability
Set healthier boundaries and protect your well-being
Communicate more effectively, especially when co-parenting is involved
Rebuild confidence and a stronger sense of identity

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About Divorce Therapy
Reaching out for support is a big step, and it’s natural to have questions. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
What is divorce therapy, and how is it different from regular counseling?
Divorce therapy (also called relationship transition counseling) is a form of individual counseling focused on the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges of divorce. Unlike general counseling, it centers on helping you process the end of your relationship, navigate co-parenting, rebuild your identity, and move forward.
When is the right time to start divorce counseling?
There is no wrong time. Some people begin divorce therapy before the legal process is finalized, and they’re still navigating the day-to-day emotional weight of the transition. Others reach out after the divorce is complete, when the grief or adjustment becomes harder to manage alone.
Will my children need therapy too?
That depends on the child and the circumstances. Divorce can affect children in significant ways, and many families find that involving a therapist (either in individual child sessions or family therapy) helps children process their feelings in a healthy, age-appropriate way. JRNY offers family therapy and child inclusive mediation services to support the whole family.
Do you accept insurance for divorce counseling?
JRNY Counseling does not currently accept insurance. This gives us the freedom to provide more personalized, flexible care without restrictions on session length or treatment approach. If needed, we can provide a Superbill that you may submit toward your out-of-network benefits or deductible.
